Muslims in Canada have reported to experience verbal abuse, intimidation, and other forms of discrimination – especially after terrorist attacks perpetrated by Islamic extremists. Being Muslim in Canada highlights the stories of Canadian Muslims regarding the stares and violence they have faced on public transit and other public spaces because of their Islamic identity. The stories also include how the individuals overcome these traumatic experiences. Due to the rise of anti-Muslim discrimination, Muslim individuals have established community-based initiatives such as tool-kits, resource guides, and self defense programs for women to help combat Islamophobic incidents.
