The Paris attacks led to a rise of anti-Muslim violence and harassment in Canada. To foster a sense of understanding and peace between Muslims and non-Muslims in the community, this article highlights ten ways to help build relations between Muslims and non-Muslims. The ten recommendations/tools provided in the article are: the NCCM community tool kit, reaching out to Muslim populations, articles about how not to treat Muslims after terrorist attacks, showing support online through using hashtags, a guide to increase understanding in the workplace, document for educators to use in the classroom to help students learn about Islamophobia and how to combat it, filing violence to NCCM, signing petitions, sharing information with others, and sharing document about a letter a teacher wrote to her Muslim students.
The Teaching Against Islamophobia resources were developed with funding support from the Law Foundation of BC, and the Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies at SFU.
