IslamFYI. (2017, June 1). What is jihad? https://islamfyi.princeton.edu/what-is-jihad/
This article reviews the Islamic tradition about intellectual jihad, “the struggle of the mind and the pen to determine what is good and to promote that good in society” (para. 5). In another section, the author/s provide(s) evidence from the Quran noting that jihad should not transgress sacred bounds and prohibits violence, killing any innocents (especially women, children, elderly, disabled, monks and priests). The Quran also forbids cutting down fruit bearing trees, or poisoning the wells of enemies, or killing livestock for reasons other than for food.
