At the end of 2022, after fourty years at the helm of the Centre for Education, Law and Society, alongside a groundbreaking career at SFU, Dr. Wanda Cassidy retired from the Faculty of Education. Her career long contributions to the fields legal literacy for youth, cyberbullying/cyberkindness, and the ethics of care served as the core of the research activities, curriculum development, and community-based initiatives that fueled CELS’s research activities. Dr. Cassidy is the only Canadian recipient of the American Bar Association’s Isidore Starr Award for Excellence in Law-related Education. As well, she is a respected educator honoured with recognition of a Simon Fraser University Excellence in Teaching Award. She remains involved as a member of the Steering Committee of the Centre renamed in her honour, the Cassidy Centre for Educational Justice.
