Debunking Misconceptions About Islam and Muslims defines what stereotypes are and the negative impacts they have on individuals and groups. This resource provides examples of four common stereotypes that are associated with Muslims and Islam: 1) Islam promotes violence; 2) Islam promotes the oppression of women; 3) Muslim women are forced to wear the hijab; and 4) Muslim’s God is Allah. The resource also provides an explanation of why each stereotype is incorrect. Middle and Upper Grades.

The Teaching Against Islamophobia resources were developed with funding support from the Law Foundation of BC, and the Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies at SFU.
