Bongard, K. (2014, August 11). Sharia Law in Ontario: Separating Myth Fact. Pardon Applications of Canada. https://www.pardonapplications.ca/articles/sharia-law-ontario-separating-myth-fact/

The recommendation to continue to enforce the Arbitration Act in Ontario and the announcement to arbitrate matter on the basis of sharia law was met with resistance from right-wing media and activists. Comments critiquing the Arbitration Act and sharia law were informed by inaccurate and lack of information. Moreover, there is a lack of knowledge regarding the definition of sharia law and what it entails. Lastly, the Arbitration Act is enforced by other minority groups such as Jews; therefore, Muslims should also have the same liberties as other groups.

The Teaching Against Islamophobia resources were developed with funding support from the Law Foundation of BC, and the Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies at SFU.
