CJPME conducted a survey that explored Islamophobia and multiculturalism in Canada – specifically, analyzing how Canadians perceived these issues. The introduction of the survey provides an overview of what Islamophobia is, the context of Islamophobia in Canada, and motion M-103 and the Quebec mosque attack. The survey also illustrates previous surveys that have been conducted in Canada on Islamophobia. The findings of the survey reveal that Islamophobia exists in Canada and poses a challenge to multiculturalism. Specifically, the survey reveals that Canadians are least comfortable with a figure of authority who wears the hijab, Canadians are more likely to view Muslims through a stereotypical lens, Canadians are less comfortable welcoming a Muslim into their families, Canadians are less concerned for the religious rights of Muslims, and many Canadians think Muslims are a monolithic group. Charts and figures are included in the survey for visual purposes.
