Legacy, M. (2021). Prohibiting Islamophobic Discrimination Social Justice 12 [Sample Lesson Plan].

This lesson plan, curated for Social Justice 12 classrooms, focuses on Islamophobia and how to prohibit it. The main purpose of this lesson plan is to help students understand the complexity of social injustices and the impact they have. This lesson plan includes learning activities which are divided into three parts. The first part focuses on the topic of legislative frameworks, which includes examples of court cases and definition of Islamophobia. The second part, criminal standards, also includes court case examples. The third part, no to hate, helps students reflect on Islamophobia, such as various Islamophobic incidents, what the government is doing to combat Islamophobia, and what are factors that have led to Islamophobia. A visiting mosque activity is also included in this section. Educational activities are also provided to help guide teachers in their classrooms and how to engage students in specific topics.

The Teaching Against Islamophobia resources were developed with funding support from the Law Foundation of BC, and the Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies at SFU.
