According to Statistics Canada, hate crimes against Muslims increased by 60% in 2017.  The article notes how Muslim perpetrated terrorist attacks led to rise of hate crimes against Muslims. Furthermore, Statistics Canada highlighted that the hate crimes statistics are perhaps higher as many go unreported to the police. Khalid Elgazzar argues that the reason for the lack of reporting to the police stems from Muslims feeling a sense of distrust and fear. The article also notes that other marginalized groups, including minority religious groups, are victims of hate crimes.
