Drawing on the case of Amira Osman Hamed, a Sudanese woman who faced trial as she refused to wear the hijab, this article addresses the rise of government regulations regarding religious symbols.  The article also notes that private individuals and groups also impose norms regarding religious attire. Lastly, the rise of social hostilities against women regarding religious attires is also addressed.
