How Schools Can Create a Safe Environment for Muslim Students. (2019, March 15). Colorín Colorado. https://www.colorincolorado.org/teaching-ells/creating-welcoming-classroom/muslim-students

To address anti-Muslim bullying and rhetoric in schools, this website provides resources and tools to help foster a safe school environment for Muslim students. The resources aim to promote dialogue among students/staff and support Muslim students after traumatic events that target Muslims. Resources for educators include: news headlines; teaching tolerance (countering Islamophobia and resources on religion); anti-defamation league (facts and myths and empowering young people); bias and bullying; PBS Newshour (9/11 and teenage immigrant experiences); and suggested books, authors and films. In addition, resources that help students feel welcome, such as refugee students, are also featured.

The Teaching Against Islamophobia resources were developed with funding support from the Law Foundation of BC, and the Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies at SFU.
