This video showcases the Hip Hop Consciousness benefit concert held for Imam Jamil Al-Amin. Imam Jamil is a Muslim leader of the National Islamic Community and former Black Panther Party member, who was arrested for allegedly murdering a police officer. His arrest led the Black community in Los Angeles to hold a concert to help raise funds to cover legal costs and to support his family. In addition to raising money, the benefit served as a tool to spread awareness through artistic avenues.
