To counter common misconceptions about sharia law, this article outlines several questions and issues that are raised when discussing sharia. The first part of this article addresses what sharia is, what are the sources for sharia, and interpreting sharia. In addition, issues concerning sharia, American Muslims, and America are outlined such as compatibility of sharia with American law, American Muslims and sharia, and the perceived threat of sharia being implemented in the United States. Misconceptions surrounding sharia punishments are also noted.
