Despite showing sadness and grief in response to the London attack that killed 4 Muslims, politicians continue to maintain anti-Muslim policies. Although political leaders have employed counterterrorism policies to combat right wing extremism, these very tools have negatively impacted Muslims. Politicians and media play a role in reinforcing and reproducing Islamophobic tropes. Therefore, Islamophobia is not merely an interpersonal issue, rather it is a product of systemic racism.
