In 1938, Edmonton built Canada’s first mosque, Al-Rashid. This video highlights the important role Muslim women played, such as Hilwie Hamdan, in founding the mosque such as raising funds and working with community members. The challenges Muslims had faced to ensure the mosque remained open are also highlighted.

The Teaching Against Islamophobia resources were developed with funding support from the Law Foundation of BC, and the Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies at SFU.
