Oliphant, E. (2016, August 31). Translating Scholarship: Can academics and the media work together? The Revealer. https://therevealer.org/translating-scholarship-can-the-media-and-academics-can-work-together/

Elayne Oliphant, a Religious Studies professor, shares her experience with journalists and the media in conveying information about an issue. Oliphant sent an academic and nuanced explanation to a reporter addressing an Air France policy which required female flight attendants to cover in Iran. However, the reporter only extracted the insignificant portions of the email thus miscommunicating Oliphant’s ideas to the public. Therefore, Oliphant poses the question of how journalists and academics convey academic discourse to the public.
