This article provides a clear and short review of the contemporary misuse of the term “jihad” and argues that the recent understanding of “Jihad” is related to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, when stateless actors began to claim the right to declare jihad, and when the extremists appropriated the term to justify violence and terrorism.
