Muslim teachers who teach Islamic education play an important role in the Muslim community. Their goal is to educate Muslim students and help them understand their faith – Islam. Specifically, Muslim teachers who teach about Islam want their students to be aware of Allah, follow the Prophet Muhammad, adhere to the five pillars of Islam, create a strong Muslim identity, and be familiar with the Quran. In addition, by drawing on Islamic rulings and principles, Muslim teachers want to promote the mental and physical health of Muslim students. Lastly, Muslim teachers want to address the impact of being a marginalized person in society and how to cope with such stresses through an Islamic framework to help them feel a sense of belonging.

The Teaching Against Islamophobia resources were developed with funding support from the Law Foundation of BC, and the Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies at SFU.
